ASPRA: The ethical responsibility of spider-man

ASPRA

“Whatever life holds inshore for you, I will never forget these words – With great power comes great responsibility”

The lecture of Dr. Mark Edwin Aspra, Dean, College of Liberal Arts, De La Salle University, Dasmariñas on February 13 encouraged the college students to look into the essentials of life to make their existence here on earth more relevant and meaningful. The talk centered on the Ethical Responsibility of Spider-man – the concept of a hero and the ethical/existential Spiderman.

The reference to the superhero was further emphasized when Dr. Aspra validated the hero’s quest for meaning with Sartre’s philosophy on the challenges of life. According to Sartre, all the unpleasant things that come our way should not make us falter but “challenge us to make an honest and humanistic response to human existence”.

The Michaeleans agreed to the propositions presented by the speaker especially on the struggles of Peter Parker/Spiderman in his quest towards inner peace. The open forum was well participated by students who were big fans of Spider-man.
