Golden Z reaps 1st place in int’l tilt
Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese receives the recognition for SMCL Golden Z Club, First Place Winner, Emma Conlon International Service Award from Lynn McKenzie, Zonta Intl Director and Subhaporn Peters, District 17 Governor during the 13th Zonta Intl District Conference held in Kuantan, Malaysia. Saint Michael’s College of Laguna Golden Z Club (SMCL GZC) sponsored by Zonta Club of Laguna has been awarded the 2005 Zonta International Emma Conlon Service Award besting 23 applications representing seven countries.
This is the second time that SMCL GZC won the award in the international level.
SMCL GZC is the lone Asian Club that made it to the roster of American and European-based GZ clubs. Northern Michigan University Golden Z Club and Bay Path College Golden Z Club ranked second and third places respectively.
Zonta District 17 Governor Subhaporn Peters awarded a Plaque of Recognition to SMCL GZC during the closing ceremony of the 13th Zonta District Conference held in Kuantan, Malaysia on Sept. 2005.
SMCL GZC was also honored in the Zonta District 17 Area 5 Recognition and Loyalty Day at Manila Polo Club on Nov. 18, 2005.
Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese, SMCL President and Chair, Zonta Z Club Committee was likewise presented a certificate of recognition for her dedication in advancing the status of women thus earning for her Club the distinction of being a two-time international winner.
The Club’s US$500 prize will go to its beneficiaries namely Ephpheta School for the Deaf, Santa Rosa City, Saint Mary’s House, Tagaytay City, and Milagros Limaco Learning Laboratory. (The Michaelean Herald)
