Golden Z wins 4th in a row

SMCL Golden Z Club bagged the Emma L. Conlon Service Award for the fourth time for 2006-2007 besting all other entries from U.S. and Canada. The club takes pride in being the lone Asian country to make it among countries in the West. Mentored by its sponsor, ZC of Laguna, the students initiate, plan, and implement programs that would contribute to the promotion of education, leadership, youth development, and women empowerment.

Outstanding activities/projects done by the club included Breast Cancer “Dikit” Awareness Campaign, Z Club marker, Golden Z Club Website, International Night, Human Rights Day, International Women’s Day, Summer Reading Program and Peer Counseling. Its regular programs are Family Literacy Program, Livelihood Program and Health and Sanitation Programs that have been continuously networking with the government and non-governmental organizations.

Inspired by their sister Zontians, who provided them with resources, information and guidance, the GZ clubbers have maintained their major service projects for education, livelihood, and international understanding. The clubs continue to translate the Zontian ideal of empowering the women, the children and the elderly and uplifting the plight of the marginalized. The 4th Emma Conlon award indexes to more service-oriented projects from these young women who do ordinary things extraordinarily well.
