Saldajeno conducts theater arts workshop

As part of the Continuing Professional Development Program - Strategic Teacher Intervention Program, the faculty of, Saint Michael’s College of Laguna, had an in-service training (INSET) on Pedagogical Theater Arts on May 29-30. The INSET aimed at developing teachers’ instructional delivery skills using creative strategies and enhancing teacher’s skills in operationalizing engaging learning experiences to raise learning outcomes.

Prof. Albert M. Saldajeno, Jr. of St. Joseph’s College of Quezon City and the Center for Learning and Teaching Styles, known for his expertise in handling workshops for teachers, facilitated the INSET. Teachers were given creative drama exercises, scriptwriting techniques, pantomime exercises, and stage direction workshop. He urged the participants to express the four basic emotions such as joy, anger, fear and sorrow through body movements.

“The bottom line is creativity,” Saldajeno impressed on the teachers that pedagogical theater could be employed in regular classroom setting but the teachers must exhibit creativity and mastery of the subject matter.

A showcase of the best dance, pantomime, storytelling, monologue and creative drama was presented to the SMCL community in the culminating activity.

Dr. Lourdes Almeda-Sese congratulated all the participants and handed the Certificate of Appreciation to Saldajeno for his invaluable sharing of his talents and skills. This is his third time to conduct an INSET to the SMCL Faculty. In his previous visits, he discussed the use of Spontaneous Generative Educational Strategies (SPONGES) and Effective Classroom Management.
