Quality Policy and Objectives
Governance and Management
Dr. Lourdes L. Almeda-Sese has devoted more than three decades of her professional life fostering the education and development of the youth of Laguna occupying various positions as Registrar, Assistant School Director, Executive Vice-President, and President of Saint Michael's College of Laguna.
As its 3rd President, she is responsible for its metamorphosis from its humble beginnings in 1976 into a major presence in 2004, the first deregulated College in Laguna. This deregulated status was extended for five years by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on March 11, 2009. On its ruby founding anniversary, CHED granted it autonomous status from April 1, 2016 to May 31, 2019 via CHED en banc Resolution No 192-2016 signed on 13 April 2016. SMCL now joins the ranks of the top 5% of the PHEIs nationwide. This recognition has been complemented by PACUCOA's Gold Award for having all of its programs (9 or 100%) accredited on 01 December 2015. SMCL was ISO certified on an institutional level by TUV Rhineland on 24 April 2014, with zero non-conformities during the first and second surveillance audits in 2015 and 2016---another major breakthrough for the College. Her quest for quality and excellence which she has deftly pursued through her passion, persistence, prudence, and God's benediction has been the hallmark of her leadership style.
Her zeal for public service extends beyond education. She has spirited advocacies and initiatives that promote the rights and welfare of the marginalized and the oppressed particularly those of women and children. She has actively harnessed SMCL in its LINGAP (Lingkod at Pagmamahal) program as a conduit to projects in collaboration with Zonta International, UN Women, Visayan Forum Foundation, I Can Serve Foundation, Gift2Life Foundation, Taytay sa Kauswagan (TSKI),Tulay sa Pag-unlad (TSPI), Gawad Kalinga, among others. In 2009, she worked for the incorporation of the LINGAP-SMCL Foundation, Inc. The Foundation serves as SMCL's social services arm. She has consistently believed in empowering people by creating opportunities and giving them options in defining where they wish to go.
